Organic Raw Maca Root Powder

.
Our organic raw maca root powder in sustainably grown by small farming co-operatives in the high Andes of Peru. The community of farmers use traditional planting methods to ensure harmonious land management, whereby the seeds are planted in the spring season (September), amongst the mineral rich, rocky soils and tucked neatly away by the gentle foot fall of sheep, ready for germination. As this time of year marks the beginning of the rainy season, maca is nourished by high mountain rainfall until the crops are ready to be harvested the following May. Once unearthed, the maca roots are naturally sun-dried for 10-15 days. The best roots are selected for processing. They are washed, cut and dehydrated at low temperatures then milled into a fine powder.

Maca powder has an unusually high mineral content for a root vegetable, especially when concentrated in powder dried form. High in iron, potassium and calcium. Iron contributes to normal formation of red blood cells and haemoglobin, normal oxygen transport in the body and normal function of the immune system. Potassium contributes to normal functioning of the nervous system; normal muscle function, and the maintenance of normal blood pressure, while calcium contributes to the maintenance of normal bones and teeth, normal energy-yielding metabolism and muscle function. Maca is also a source of Zinc, which contributes to the normal functioning of a range of processes, including normal fertility and reproduction; normal testosterone levels in the blood, and the protection of cells from oxidative stress.
There are also claims of maca containing prostaglandins which have a hormone like effect in the body.

How to use
Our organic raw maca root powder can be added to protein shakes, offering prolonged energy release post exercise. It can be added to everyday smoothies, baking, stirred into served porridges and mueslis. Maca also has the wonderful effect of acting as an emulsifier, this means that it makes fats and oils more soluble in water, which for culinary purposes is great as liquids become creamier and digestively is also great, because healthy oils and fats become easier to absorb!
